Answers to common questions about female sterilization and tubal ligation:

1- Does female sterilization need a general anesthetic?

Yes and no, female sterilization also called tying of the Fallopian tubes, is made under coelioscopy which only need a mini anesthetic.

2- I have 40 years old, 3 kids and I do not want kids anymore. Can I ask to my gynecologist a tubal ligation?

Yes, if you are sure and determined that you do not want kids anymore because the reversibility of this sterilization is uncertain.

3- I went through a tubal ligation at 38 years old because I did not want any more kids (I already had 4). Since, I have met someone who absolutely wants a child with me. Is there some operation in order to make the Fallopian tubes permeable again?

Yes, this operation is possible but the result is not guarantee at all. The rate of a new permeability is weak with also a risk of extra-uterine pregnancy.

4- My gynecologist contraindicates me a new pregnancy because of a high blood pressure. He advises me the coil but I have some profuse period. He did not say anything about tubal ligation, what do you think about it?

You should talk about it with him because it can be a good solution because of your contraindication of a new pregnancy.

5- I have read that there is a new technique of tubal ligation, which seems quite simple?

This is true, this technique consists in the introduction of a foreign body into the fallopian tubes, in a natural way, in order to create an inflammatory reaction, which will leads to the combination of the walls of the fallopian tubes stopping in this manner the egg and the sperm meeting. This technique can be performed in the gynecologist office under hysteroscopy.
