Answers to common questions about glans penis:

The glans is clearly visible as the head of the penis. The prepuce usually covers the glans unless the penis is erect, except in circumcised men, whose foreskin has been surgically removed. The glans is highly sensitive, as is the corona that connects the glans to the shaft of the penis

1- I am worried because I noticed that I had spots on the tip of my penis. However, it is not painful. Is it normal?

Spots on the penis are very common and most do not have a serious cause. However, some do and it is important to seek prompt medical advice if you are concerned.

2- Hi, I am 17 and I have a problem with the glans of my penis. It is extremely sensitive to touch. I do not understand because during masturbation, there is no problem, but when I touch it with my finger, it is very painful. What can I do?

I think that when you masturbate you do pull back your prepuce and this can explain why it is not painful during masturbation. To develop less sensitivity, I advise you to uncover regularly your glans during personal hygiene then you can try to walk around with the head of you penis exposed in your underwear (i.e. keep your foreskin retracted), the rubbing on the material of your underwear will desensitize it.

3- Hello, I am 16 years old and I cannot pull back the foreskin of my penis. Apparently, I need surgery. Is it going to be painful? If I am not going through surgery am I going to have problems in my future sex life?

It is a surgical act under local anesthesia. This surgical act is not painful at all. For your future sex life, with this surgical act you will have no problem. However, if you do nothing about it, you might develop some problem later such as pain during penetration or premature ejaculation.

4- I try to keep my penis as clean as possible. However, since few days, my glans smells really bad and I have an excessive secretion of smegma. I am a bit inflamed at the base of the glans. I am worried, what should I do?

It can be a little infection such as mycosis or others. I advise you to seek your doctor if the smell remains after daily personal hygiene. This personal hygiene should be done with soapy water and with the foreskin pulled back.

5- I am 15 and I never had sex. When my penis is erect, my foreskin does not roll back. However, I can pull it back manually but the prepuce does not stay behind the corona. Is this will have consequences on the pleasure that I will have during sexual relations? Thanks.

If you can manually pull back your prepuce behind the corona, then you will have the same pleasure during penetration as every other man. You are young so if you get use to pull back manually your prepuce, your glans will get use to it and your prepuce will easily stays behind the corona.

6- My frenulum is link to my glans. Is it normal?

Yes, it is normal because frenulum normally links the prepuce to the internal face of the glans.

7- Since few days, I have noticed some red spots on the glans of my penis. It is really itching. What should I put on it to cure it?

You should not put anything on it before seeking your doctor. So get an appointment today!

8- I am 18 and I am uncircumcised. Recently about 2 weeks was the first time I have ever been able to pull back my foreskin and see the tip of my penis. Now when I am erect I can pull it back just half way over the head, but when I am softer, I can pull it all the way to the back of the head. Is this a normal process? Will I be able to pull it all the way back when hard in the future?

Yes, regularly and gradually practice pulling it back over the head of the penis. The skin will stretch over time. Many men have this issue. Just make sure you do not force it too much. You can use lubrication or lotion to ease process if you want.
