Answers to common questions about morning after pill and
emergency pill:

1- I have sexual intercourses only one weekend out of two, because my boyfriend does not live in the same country as I do. I would prefer to take the morning-after pill, at the end of the weekend rather than an every day pill. My doctor is against it, what do you think of it? 

He is totally right because the morning-after pill is less effective than the contraceptive pill and because of its mixture, (one morning-after pill contains as much hormones as 10 contraceptive pills), and a regular take of morning-after pills can be harmful to your health.

2- Is the morning-after pill effective at 100%?

No, the morning-after pill is not effective at 100%. Its effectiveness depends on the time between the intercourse and the take of the drug: 5% of failure if the pill is taken before 24h, 15% of failure if the pill is taken between 24 and 48h and 42% of failure between 48 and 72h. Therefore, the decision should be taken quickly! 

3- I have taken the morning-after pill but it did not work. Is there a risk of malformation for the baby?

No, there is no risk of malformation in case of a failure of the method.

4- Is it necessary to seek a doctor to take the morning-after pill?

No, nowadays quite a lot of pharmacists (though not all) will supply the morning-after pill to you without a doctor’s prescription.
