Answers to common questions about sexually transmitted disease, STD and STI:

1- What is STD?

The term STD is short for sexually transmitted disease. STD can be transmitted through sexual contact. However, some sexually transmitted diseases can be passed through blood contact.

2- Are there any risks of getting transmitted diseases during fellatio?

As for cunnilingus, the risk is quite low. The higher risk is the transmission of herpes. AIDS can be transmitted by fellatio in case of blood contact (inflammation of the gums) with sperm.

3- My partner is experiencing vaginal dryness since 3 weeks. The use of lubricant did not change anything. What can you advise us?

It is possible that your partner has a vaginal infection such as mycosis, which is responsible of itchings and vaginal dryness. She needs to see her gynecologist for treatment.

4- I have always used condom during sexual relations with my girlfriend but now she is taking contraceptive pill. I would like to know if there are any risks of STD transmission if we do not use a condom anymore.

STIs or STDs can be transmitted by any means other than sexual contact. AIDS infections can be transmitted by blood exchange so it is recommended that you and your girlfriend get the HIV test done before you stop using condoms. Also, ask your girlfriend if she already has herpes.

5- When could we stop using condoms?

If you want to stop using condoms, it is important that you both get tested for STIs and STDs first. Many sexually transmitted diseases do not have any symptoms so you or your partner could have one and not know it.

6- Can I get sexually transmitted disease from a toilet seat?

No, there is no risk of transmission from toilet seat. Most sexually transmitted diseases are spread through blood contact, genital secretion, sperm or saliva with an infected person but not with skin contact with a toilet seat.

7- I like to practice cunnilingus but I am scared about STDs?

The risk of being infected with sexual transmitted diseases during cunnilingus is quite low. The most important risk is herpes, which can be transmitted through mouth contact during oral sex. However, t here is dental dam for cunnilingus, which will avoid STD transmission. If you do not have any, you can use a condom cut open.

8- During fellatio, I like to swallow my boyfriend’s sperm. Are there any risks of STDs transmission?

Unprotected oral sex, whether you swallow or not, is risky if you do not know the sexual health of your partner. Oral sex without a condom, whether or not your partner ejaculates in your mouth, can transmit several STDs, if your partner is infected. However, swallowing sperm will never, in itself, give you STD or any other disease, and swallowing does not significantly increase your chances of contracting an STD.
