Anatomy: Internal female genital organs
Anatomy: External female genital organs

Fallopian tubes:

There are two Fallopian tubes, attached to either side of the upper part of the uterus and each terminating at or near one ovary. The Fallopian tubes are about 10-14 cm long. They allow the ovum migration from the ovary to the uterus. The Fallopian tubes have small hair-like projections called cilia on the inner surface of the tube. These tubal cilia are essential to the movement of the egg through the tube into the uterus.

Uterus:

The uterus is a hollow muscular organ into which the ovum is received through the fallopian tubes and where it is retained during development and from which the fetus is expelled through the cervical os into the vaginal canal. The uterus is a pear-shaped structure, about 3 inches in length, consisting of a fundus body, isthmus and cervix. The uterus is located in a woman's lower abdomen, between the bladder and the rectum. The uterine cavity opens into the uterine tube, and into the vagina below. In women of childbearing age, the inner layer of the uterus (endometrium) goes through a series of monthly changes known as the menstrual cycle. Each month, endometrial tissue grows and thickens in preparation to receive a fertilized egg. Menstruation occurs when this tissue is not used, disintegrates, and passes out through the vagina. The outer layer of the corpus (myometrium) is muscular tissue that expands during pregnancy to hold the growing fetus and contracts during labor to deliver the child.

Ovaries:

A woman have two ovaries, each performing two major functions: producing eggs and secreting hormones. Ovaries are situated in the pelvis one on each side of the uterus. Each ovary is about the size and shape of an almond. During each monthly menstrual cycle, an egg is released from one ovary. The egg travels from the ovary through a fallopian tube to the uterus. The ovaries are the main source of female hormones, which control the development of female body characteristics, such as the breasts, body shape and body hair. They also regulate the menstrual cycle and pregnancy.

Vagina:

The vagina is an elastic muscular tube about 4 inches long that connects the vulva at the outside to the cervix of the uterus at the inside. The vaginal opening is at the back end of the vulva, behind the opening of the urethra. The inside of the vagina is usually pink.
The hymen (a membrane situated behind the urethral opening) partially covers the vagina from birth until it is ruptured by sexual intercourse, or by any number of other activities including medical examinations, injury, certain types of exercise, introduction of a foreign object, etc. (It is at 2 to 3 cm behind hymen that is located the G-point).
The vagina serves as the receptacle for the penis during sexual intercourse and as the birth canal through which the baby passes during labor.
Vaginas are all different in shapes, sizes as everyone’s bodies are different, and two thick folds of skin called labia protect it. The vagina widens and lengthens up to 2-3 times when a woman gives birth, or during sexual intercourses. Vaginal lubrication is provided by glands near the vaginal opening and the cervix and seeps through the vaginal wall (which does not contain any glands).

Bladder:

The bladder is an elastic, muscular sac situated in the anterior part of the pelvic cavity. The bladder is designed to be a reservoir for urine as storage before excretion. (Infection of the bladder is called cystitis).

Colon:

The colon is the section of the large intestine extending from the caecum to the rectum as a long hollow tube that serves to remove water from digested food. The colon measures about 5 ft in length.

Sacrum:

The sacrum is roughly triangular and is located in the vertebral column, between the lumbar vertebrae and the coccyx and is connected to the pelvis. The female sacrum is wider and less curved than the male.

Rectum:

The rectum is a muscular tube about 5 inches long. It is the end of the large intestine (colon). The rectum stores the solid waste until it leaves the body through the anus.

Anus:

The anus is the opening of the rectum through which solid wasted is eliminated from the body.

Vulva:

The vulva is the external sexual organ of woman. Labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, mons veneris and hymen are part of the vulva.

Mons veneris:

The mons veneris is the pad of fatty tissue that covers the pubic bone below the abdomen but above the labia. The mons is sexually sensitive in some women and protects the pubic bone from the impact of sexual intercourse. After puberty, the mons veneris is normally covered with pubic hairs, which have no utility and can be shaven according to the desire of the woman.

Labia majora:

The labia majora are the outer lips of the vulva, pads of fatty tissue that wrap around the vulva from the mons to the perineum. These labia are usually covered with pubic hair, and contain numerous sweat and oil glands. Dimensions of the labia majora are 8 cm length and 2 cm height.

Labia minora:

The labia minora are the inner lips of the vulva, thin stretches of tissue within the labia majora that fold and protect the vagina, urethra and clitoris. The appearance of labia minora can vary widely, from tiny lips that hide between the labia majora to large lips that protrude. Both the inner and outer labia are quite sensitive to touch and pressure. Dimensions of labia minora are 3 cm length and 1.5 cm height.

Urinary meatus:

The opening of the urethra is just below the clitoris. It is not related to sex and reproduction, but is instead the passage for urine.

Hymen:

The hymen is a thin pinkish membrane which partially closes the entrance of the vagina and which exists only in the human being. The hymen is visible once the labia minora are spread, and is located under the urinary meatus (external opening of the urinary canal). Its shape and its dimensions are variable: often it is of annular shape surrounding the vaginal entrance, thin and more or less riddled with small holes. Rarely, it can be thick and can close completely the vaginal entrance or on the contrary, be almost non-existent. In most cases, the hymen, even intact, allows the introduction of a little finger or a small tampon but does not allow the introduction of a erected penis. The hymen is vascularized and has to tear during a penetration, what often leads to small bleeding.

Clitoris:

The clitoris anatomy is quite close to the one of the penis: it is made of two erectile tissues, a glans, a frenulum and a hood. The clitoris glans, especially, is very innervate, very vascular and contains several pleasure receptors, which is characteristic of a very erogenous area. The vulva and the clitoris, like the penis of man, are swelling of blood during the excitation. In contrary to the penis, the clitoris is not run through the urethra and the sexual differentiation made it a smaller organ because it is not suppose to penetrate. Only the clitoris glans is visible. It has the size of a little currant. To be able to see and touch the clitoris, it is necessary that the woman have the thighs slightly opened. It needs to spread the labia majora then the labia minora and to come back up between the labia minora because the clitoris is located at the union of the labia minora under the hood that you will need to uncover delicately. With the finger, the clitoris is perceived as a little bulge.
